PRODEX, a specialist in industrial and logistics layout for more than 70 years, has recently completed a major project for the pharmacy of Rennes University Hospital (CHU).
This project perfectly illustrates PRODEX’s expertise in designing ergonomic and secure solutions tailored to demanding professional environments, particularly in the healthcare sector.
As part of this project, PRODEX worked closely with the hospital’s ergonomist to design and install custom ergonomic workstations, as well as industrial protective guards around a global medication dispensing robot.
The objective was to improve workflow organisation, operator comfort and the overall safety of the installation.
Ergonomic workstations designed for pharmacy operators
One of the main challenges of the project was to optimise the working conditions of the hospital pharmacy teams.
As operators handle large volumes of medicines and packaging on a daily basis, it was essential to design ergonomic workstations that enhance both comfort and productivity.
The PRODEX teams therefore developed adjustable and modular workstations, specifically adapted to the users’ needs. Each workstation consists of:
-
a roller conveyor allowing smooth circulation of bins and products,
-
four ergonomic worktables,
-
functional storage shelves,
-
integrated storage spaces to facilitate workstation organisation.
Thanks to their multiple adjustment options, these workstations allow each operator to adapt the height and layout of their workspace according to their morphology and daily tasks.
This ergonomic approach helps to:
-
reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs),
-
improve working comfort,
-
optimise team productivity,
-
promote better work organisation.
In the hospital environment, where precision and speed are essential, workstation ergonomics plays a key role in the overall performance of the department.
Industrial protective guards to secure the dispensing robot
In addition to the ergonomic layout of the workstations, PRODEX also designed and installed a set of industrial safety guards around the global dispensing robot used by the pharmacy.
These protective systems help secure automated areas while ensuring controlled access for operators.
The installed solutions include in particular:
-
industrial safety mesh guards,
-
secured sliding doors,
-
robust metal barriers,
-
wooden beam guards designed to absorb potential impacts.
These devices ensure optimal safety of the installations while allowing simple and rapid maintenance of the automated equipment.
The implementation of these protective systems also helps meet the strict requirements related to machine safety and occupational risk prevention, which are particularly important in hospital environments.
A successful collaboration between the PRODEX engineering department and the CHU ergonomist
The success of this project is based on effective collaboration between the PRODEX engineering department and the ergonomist of Rennes University Hospital.
From the early stages of the project, an in-depth needs analysis was carried out in order to take into account:
-
the constraints of the hospital environment,
-
the pharmacy’s workflows,
-
the specific needs of the operators,
-
the safety requirements related to the use of the robot.
Thanks to this collaborative approach, the PRODEX teams were able to design fully customised solutions that perfectly meet the client’s expectations.
Our engineering department therefore applied its full expertise in the design of ergonomic and secure industrial layouts, paying close attention to every detail: workstation dimensions, product flow, equipment accessibility and the integration of safety guards.
PRODEX, expert in industrial and logistics layout
This project carried out at Rennes University Hospital once again illustrates PRODEX’s ability to design and deploy custom industrial layout solutions adapted to a wide range of environments: industry, logistics, laboratories, hospitals and distribution centres.
For more than 70 years, PRODEX has been supporting companies and institutions in optimising their workspaces through reliable, ergonomic and durable equipment.
The solutions offered by PRODEX include in particular:
-
ergonomic workstations,
-
workshop and logistics area layout,
-
industrial safety guards,
-
material handling and workflow management solutions,
-
custom equipment adapted to specific operational constraints.
Each project is subject to a personalised study in order to propose the most appropriate solution, taking into account technical, human and organisational constraints.
A satisfied client and renewed trust
With this new achievement, PRODEX confirms its position as an expert in industrial layout and workplace ergonomics.
This project also highlights the importance of user-centred design, particularly in sensitive environments such as the healthcare sector.
The PRODEX teams warmly thank Rennes University Hospital for the trust placed in them for the completion of this project.
